Frequently Asked Questions

Can I change the color of my grout?

Yes. Our color sealant comes in 20 different colors and you are free to choose any one of them. Changing the color of your grout does not require re-grouting with our services. Our sealant is painted over any existing grout you have and can be lightened, darkened or restored to your original grout color. The new grout color will not fade, discolor or stain.

What is grout?

Grout is a combination of cement, sand and rock that is often dyed a specific color to match different shades and patterns of tile. When tile is applied to a floor or wall, it is set in place using an adhesive. It is necessary to leave space in between the joints of the tiles to allow the adhesive to dry and moisture escape. This drying process can take up to 30 days to completely cure, requiring the use of a porous grout to fill the joints and strengthen the floor. The porousness in the grout allows the moisture to escape from the adhesive preventing the tile from buckling. However, the porousness is the exact cause of any mold, mildew or staining problem. Every time you clean the surface of the grout, the mildew spores still hold roots deep in the grout. As soon as water enters the grout, the mildew blossoms again, repeating the same staining problem. Northwest Grout Works’ color sealant penetrates into the grout, smothering out all of the pores and eliminating any further mildew or stain problems.

What is grout color sealing?

Grout Color Sealers are made from 1 or more of the 3 compounds: Acrylic, Epoxy or Urethane. Penetrating agents and chemicals are added and used for consistency. Grout color sealers are then tinted with pigments or dyes and can be available in thousands of shades and colors. Color sealing grout lines not only gives your grout a perfectly flawless appearance, but also protects against stains, mildew, and discoloration.

How long will the sealant last?

Our sealant is a permanent, one-time application.
